Awarded 3rd in the ‘Best Wrecks of the World’ – 2013

Matthew Farrugia has been awarded 3rd Place in the Wreck – Underwater Photography category  2013 with the entry “Tug 2”. Furthermore he was nominated in 2 other categories: “The UW Wide Angle Category” and “The Dive Destination Category.” Click here to view the Award Winning image.

World Shoot Out 3rd Place

Awarded 1st in the ‘Best Wrecks of the World’ – 2012

Matthew has been awarded 1st Place in the Wreck Category by the International Underwater Photography Grand Prix, World ShootOut (www.worldshootout.org). The event took place worldwide and during the week of the shoot out, 276 Underwater photographers from 22 different countries across the world took part in this international competition. The award winning cermony was held in Eilat Israel Red Sea. The entry for this competition can be seen here.

International Photography Awards – 2012

Matthew Farrugia was Awarded two Honorable Mentions in the Editorial – Sports category for the winning entries “The Swimmer and the Kite Surfing Project.”  The 2012 International Photography Awards received nearly 18,000 submissions from 104 countries across the globe. IPA is a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation, where the top three winners are announced at the annual Lucie Awards gala ceremony. The Foundation’s mission is to honor master photographers, to discover new and emerging talent and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003, IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognize contemporary photographer’s accomplishments in this specialized and highly visible competition.

Dive Photo Guide Monthly Contest – 2012

Matthew Farrugia was the winner of DPG’s June, “Abstract/Art” themed, Monthly Contest.  In addition to being crowned the current Monthly Contest winner, Matthew will also take home a Subsee Magnifier from Reefnet.

Blue Campaign Photographic Competition – 2011

The Blue Campaign Photographic Competition for the marine environment was organised for the fifth consecutive year by Din l-Art Helwa. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness about our marine environment, and forms part of the Blue Campaign on which Din l-Art Helwa is working. Matthew managed to place first and won the prize sponsored by Avantech.

The CSAC UW Photographic Competition
Sponsored by Mares – 2009

The competition was organized by the Calypso Sub Aqua Club  in collaboration with Mares. The theme was an open submission and members within the organization competed with their best underwater images. Matthew was awarded first in this competition.

Established in 1977, Photographer’s Forum magazine is an award-winning quarterly publication dedicated to quality reproduction of photography in the United States and Canada. Each issue strives to facilitate communication and publication experience among emerging professionals.

PX3 Paris Photographic Awards – Semi Finalist – 2007

The Prix de la Photographie Paris promotes the appreciation of photography, discovers emerging talent, and introduces photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris. Matthew managed to reach the semifinals stages whilst competing against thousands of international participants.

Roses Advertising Awards – 2007

The Roses Creative Awards are organised by The Drum and are the result of integrating the Roses Advertising Awards and Roses Design Awards which reflects how the industry itself is evolving.  These awards recognise great creative thinking across advertising, design and digital disciplines. That is what the Roses Creative Student Awards sets out to recognise: Great creative thinking, pure and simple.

University of Lincoln (UK) – 2007

Graphic Design at Lincoln equips one with the understanding and skills one needs to operate effectively within a competitive and continually developing design industry. The course achieved this by keeping up-to-date with current trends and developments within commercial design practice. A range of aspects have been explored throughout the course including typography, layout, advertising, branding, design for print, packaging and point of purchase, magazine design and on-screen design.

BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design – 2005

The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design provided a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector. The course provided knowledge, understanding and skills for a good foundation in the  design industry.  The programme delivered a series of practical assignments backed up by theoretical knowledge in the fundamentals of graphic design as a discipline.
